Sorry to once again find myself in a rut, but here's another train picture. This time in color. It's the same train and taken on the same day as the first picture in the previous post. I like the color, but, to me, the subject really lends itself better to black and white. What do you think?

Trains
I'm going to try a different look for the photos today. Let me know what you think.
When I lived in Utah, I had the opportunity to shoot cool old steam trains from time to time. The first is at the Golden Spike National Monument where the transcontinental railroad was first joined in 1869. They haul their steam engines out once every winter because the steam looks so amazing against the cold, winter sky.
The other photo is of one of the steam engines Union Pacific keeps running for special excursions.

A couple things from work
I don't intend to post pictures that I take for work on this blog, but I thought I might link to a couple things I've done for work recently. Here are two photo features I shot recently for our online faculty/staff newsletter:
Caucus season in Iowa

Packers
It's been 10 years since the Packers won a Super Bowl. They beat the Patriots 35-21. It's also been 10 years since I've seen a Packers game in person. I was interning at a newspaper in Michigan, and managed to score a photo pass for the Packers-Lions game in the Silverdome. The pictures I got aren't really anything special, but it's neat that the only time I've seen the Pack play was the same season they won a Super Bowl. Here's a picture of Favre and another of Barry Sanders with about half the Packers defense tackling him. Hopefully the Packers will make quick work of the Giants today, so they can go beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl again.

In a rut
I promise this will be the last rose picture for a while. I'm not sure why, but when I load this picture to Blogger, it looks a lot worse than it does on my screen in Photoshop. It's not as sharp and it's orange, so when you look at it, pretend it's redder and sharper. Even like this, it's a bit different from the typical flower picture. I shot it this fall, and it's one of my favorites. For anyone who is interested, the only light source for this picture was a small LED flashlight.

Rose...the first of many
I enjoy photographing flowers, especially roses. I have this rose bush in my yard that I shoot every spring/summer/fall when it's in bloom. I have a lot of pictures of roses. I've been avoiding putting any of the pictures up here for a variety of reasons, but here's the first of what will likely be many flower pictures to come.

Bridal Veil Falls
I shot this in about 2003, give or take a year. It's Bridal Veil Falls in Spearfish Canyon, Black Hills, South Dakota. It's a great place to see anytime of year but especially in the fall.
Speaking of South Dakota, a friend of mine has a blog describing all the best places for photography in South Dakota. His blog has a lot of good information for photographers and a lot of great photos. Check it out.

Yellowstone...A long time ago
It's unlikely that I will pull from this far back in the archive very often. These are some pictures from 1994. It was my first trip to the Tetons and Yellowstone. I stumbled across them while cleaning the basement the other day.
It was a great trip with a great friend, but the pictures just aren't as good as I remembered them. Maybe I'm so used to digital now that I've forgotten what film looked like. Or maybe in the 14 years since these were taken, I've become a better photographer. There is one more picture from this trip I really need to find and scan. I think it might be as good as I remember, but that one will have to wait.
