Even with a 300mm lens I had to crop in on these a bit too much. It'd be fun to go back with a 1200mm lens to do this right. Too bad I don't have a 1200mm lens.

Eagles
Feeling a little cooped up, we went out hoping to find some eagles to look at this afternoon. Luck was with us. We saw this eagle having lunch on the carcass of a roadkill deer. It's not uncommon to see a bunch of eagles in our area, but to see one doing something besides sitting in a tree 1/4 mile away was a treat.
Even with a 300mm lens I had to crop in on these a bit too much. It'd be fun to go back with a 1200mm lens to do this right. Too bad I don't have a 1200mm lens.

I love how much intricate detail you got in these photos. The eagle's feathers look so delicate...something I completely miss when I'm just looking at it with my regular eyeballs. If only our bodies were equipped with "zoom" capabilities.
Thanks for sharing these. This afternoon was an experience I'll carry with me for a long while. A reminder of just how incredible nature can be on a cold, snowy February day in an Iowa corn field.
Awesome stuff and makes me want to get off my butt and go find some of these! You're right, its cool to see an eagle "doing" something.
